During the late-1800’s and early-1900’s there were a lot of two-wheeled and three-wheeled vehicles that used different types of propulsions systems. A lot of these early era motorcycles and trikes used steam engines, internal combustion engines, and pedals.
There were also some bikes with unique, and even bizarre, propulsions like this Cynosphere that were dog powered. In 1875, in France, there trikes were produced and utilized mid-sized dogs power vehicle. Another funny note with the Cynorsphere is that there was a “superbike” version that utilized Great Danes to propel the bikes.
As you might have guessed, animal activists weren’t thrilled. With their input the dog powered vehicles further development and manufacture ended.
