Vintage Lehaitre Tracked Motorcycle

Vintage Lehaitre Tracked Motorcycle Called the Tractor Cycle Old Pictures and Article at LightningCustoms.com Blog.

During wartime there are always a lot of innovations. One was developed in the late 1930s by J. Lehaitre in Paris. The inspiration, in large part, was to help troops navigate rough terrain, including craters from shelling.

Lehaitre developed a motorcycle with tractor tread replacing the wheels and called it a tractor-cycle. The tractor tread bike was able reach a top speed of 25 mph. The steering of this motorcycle with tank tracks was done by handlebars that operated a sideways motion of the drive belt.

The plan if it had been deployed to a theater of war was to mount a machine gun on the top. Although we did not find Lehaitre’s innovation used during any battles, it is pretty cool to check out.
